The Stages in Order

• Consultation and requirements — understanding the room, storage needs and style direction
• Preliminary design and planning estimate — layout options and a budget range

• Field measure — precise dimensions taken on site
• Final drawings and approval — the point after which changes become costly

• Countertop template and fabrication — typically after base cabinets are set

Where the Time Actually Goes

Production is almost always the longest stage. Semi-custom programs move faster than custom shops, and specialty finishes extend both. Nothing in that period is within your control once the order is placed, which is why the decision-making stages before it matter so much.

Installation itself is comparatively short. For most residential kitchens the cabinetry goes in within a manageable number of working days, assuming the room is ready and everything arrived correctly.

The Countertop Gap

Countertops cannot be templated until base cabinets are set and level. After templating, fabrication takes its own lead time before installation. This means there is a genuine gap during which you have cabinets but no working counters or sink.

Plan for it. Set up a temporary prep area, and treat the gap as expected rather than as a delay. A backsplash and any final plumbing follow the countertops.

What Extends a Timeline

• Changes made after final drawings are approved
• Specialty finishes and grain-matched veneers
• Panel-ready appliances that arrive late or differ from the specification
• Damage discovered when old cabinets are removed
• Condominium approval processes, elevator scheduling and restricted work hours
• Permits where the project involves plumbing, electrical or structural changes
• Coordinating multiple trades whose schedules must interlock

What You Can Do to Keep It Moving

• Make selections early and completely — a single undecided finish holds the whole order
• Order appliances before final cabinetry drawings so their specifications are known
• Review drawings carefully and in detail before approving them
• Submit condominium paperwork as soon as the scope is defined
• Clear the room, including the contents of every cabinet, ahead of the start date
• Resist mid-project changes; note ideas for a future phase instead

Living Through It

Set up a temporary kitchen somewhere else in the house before work begins: refrigerator, microwave, kettle, a sink you can reach and a surface to work on. Households that do this report a far easier experience than those that improvise on day three.

In condominium buildings, confirm work hours, elevator reservations and debris routing in advance. Buildings along Flagler Drive and throughout downtown West Palm Beach commonly have specific requirements, and discovering them late costs days.
